the little message

My history teacher was talking about the Black Death a few days ago. And he made me think - what if an epidemic suddenly came here, now, and saw to the death of thousands? What if death was a fact, if every day people we knew and loved were dying? What if we had to suddenly face death ourselves?

And, of course, we know that isn't going to happen - it couldn't happen. Which is precisely why it would be so terrible if it did happen. What would you do? What would disappear from our dreams, what would we see as really important? Would we start praying every second? Would we cry? Or would we live for the moment - and meet death with nothing more than acceptance?

And that's what my story, in the post right below this, is all about.

certainly something worthy of our consideration. you should read the Stand by Stephen King--it's an epic length consideration of what would happen to the contemporary world if one of the lethal diseases that's kept under lock & key at a military lab were leaked, and the chaos and death that would (& does) ensue (in the novel). Though it's more lethal than the plague. I couldn't sleep well for a long time reading after reading it. Oh, and also, you could read up on the flu epidemic of 1918. Myla Goldberg wrote a novel about it called Wickett's Remedy (since we're talking fiction)...

The story was wonderful.

It's quite a thing to think about, how prioritys would change if something like that were to happen.

I know I'd spend much less time furthering my own whims and try to help others with theirs, and perhaps when you think about things like that you realize that you should act in that way anyway. Not with a panic, but knowing that at any moment anything can happen and that you should make the best of whatever comes, and spend time with the people you love, helping them further their dreams.

Not to let go of your own dreams, but to help other's with their's as well.

It's a tad cliche' but:

I would probably decide to do things I've always imagined. You know, live life to the fullest as many people say.
And when death came to take me, I'd probably accept the fact that I was dying and be glad that I had lived my life well.

hi.

thanks for posting your comment in my melancholic memoirs blog.

if such a thing will happen, first i need 15 minutes only to myself to analyze what is the best course to take. i thrive on silence and it is in my solitude, in the silence of my heart that i will know what to do.

i know that in my silence i will find what matters most to me. my heart will speak for my family and friends...

and so i will spend the remaining moments of our lives living life to the fullest. no holding back. i will make sure that no words are left unsaid or deeds undone.

and as we are all interconnected individuals, i will also spend some of my time with other people - people i barely know or do not know at all so i may learn from them and they may hopefully learn something from me too. :)

mind if i follow you blog?

thanks! :)

Good post. You do a great job of questioning others about the "now" to impact the "then". - Bob

agree with ashlea014. Life Begins Each Morning! Lets sharing our real self with the one we love (Thanks for the comment, by the way today I realize that God never makes mistakes, he may never reveal all his reasons to us, but he has revealed his character to us..I might change "My favarit mistake" to "My Happy Incident...")

thanks for claryfing my thoughts on the fact that a career in music would not be as age dependent as one in the sports. I very much agree with your suggestion that both come with a very high demand on ones time especially the time taken to practice which would be difficult if one is home schooling at the time. Although we are miles apart we share similar upbringing I appreciate all you have said and think all in the name of progress and blinded by their love for us, our parents make mistakes considering that I grew up with a mix (public and home schooling) in that after school each day, I had to face privately hired tutors for at least 3 hours, at home. And they would have arrived and be waiting before we (myself and siblings) were chaffered home from school...and infact join us on the dining table while the meal was being served. You can imagine how sleepy one got after such a meal only to be faced with another round of learning...Most times, I got sick of it and would pretend that I needed the bathroom where I often fell asleep. But it paid off at the end although we were always seen and considered as strange because we were never like the others (everyone else) - never allowed out or to have any friends. All forms of entertainment were indoors with the family. The consolation would be foreign trips abroad during each and every school break. So I turned up very reserved, unlike the other kids who could be considered as more normal…but come to think of it, what is normal?

Turning to the littel message, Ill continue below since it is what the story, in the post right below is...

and may I just add...on the subject of death, I think life is like a black tunnel, with light at its beginning and end and I think the question of what one would do were they to they that death had come to take them would be subject to a lot of considerations like I suggested below. Imagine suddenly realising at the end that all the things you have ever considered to be important not to be. Everything you had considered right to be wrong. Imagine the thought at the end suddenly realising that in the way you have lived your life, you have been very wrong. That the things and people (including the person you ended up married to) that preoccupied your time and the ordering of all that has been wrong and you cannot put your life right again, what then?

Your post makes one realise the importance of living ones life in order to avoid any form of regret at the end...but is that possible, I mean is it possible to have no regret. I think there will still be that one thing that one would wish they had done differently, or not done at all or...

thinking about it, I think one can can go on forever...

i remember learning about the black death years ago and thinking, what if that happened now. its a scarry thought because everybpdy would react so differently, but whats the difference between a black death or a huricane? people die.

I got your comment on my blog, thanks btw.

After reading several of your posts I noticed that you sound very concerned about the reality of death. Just out of curiosity, what is it that you are afraid about? The physical act of dying, leaving your loved ones, life after death?

It really is a fascinating subject...one that so many people know very little about.
